Using the correct printer cables
Connecting your printer to your computer sounds like an easy thing to do
and in most cases it is. But sometimes choosing the correct printer
cables that you require can be quite confusing. Unfortunately a lot of
times the cable isn't included with the printer and must be purchased
separately and if you don't know exactly what type of cable you need, you
can quite often end up purchasing the wrong one.
There are basically two or three different types of cables that you can
use to connect your printer to your machine. The original printer cable
uses a serial communication type, this is usually the larger style of
connection. These were the most common types of connections used until
the USB was created.
USB is now the most popular type of printer cables used all over the
world. This is a far smaller connector that is the same on each end of
the cable. This type of connection makes it easier to share with other
machines also if you use a USB hub. It is also very easy way to share
Internet access through the same connection.
If you have recently purchased your printer, then it should almost
certainly have a USB connection. If this is the case then all you need to
do is check that your machine has a spare USB port and then all you need
is a normal USB cable to connect it. USB printer cables are like cheaper
to buy that the older style serial cable, so if you don't have a spare USB
connection then you can even look at buying a small hub which may still be
cheaper than buying the original style of printer cable and will mean you
will be able to connect other units very easily such as a digital camera
or scanner.
